Some days I just feel like a failure. Even though the baby is fed and rested, the house is a disaster, dishes are dirty, fruit flies are a buzzin’ and the only food I’ve made consists of pouring cereal from the box to the bowl.
I am not Suzie Homemaker. If you think I am? You’ll be disappointed.
The Hubs has been asking for cookies… for a while now. I convinced him to marry me with my stunning cookie baking skills and my delicious chocolate chip cookies. Except, I’m pretty sure I haven’t baked cookies in six and a half months (since right before Cameron was born).
I decided to make him cookies two weekends ago. That didn’t happen. So, I decided to bake him cookies this past weekend. That didn’t happen. So, I made him cookies tonight.
To tell you the truth, I am the only person who hates my own chocolate chip cookies. I am not a huge fan of chocolate chip cookies in general, but I do make them often because they’re oh-so-loved by everyone else (especially The Hubby). When I told Dan that I would make cookies, I asked if he would be disappointed if they weren’t my chocolate chip cookies. I like chocolate chip oatmeal cookies, so I was hoping to try making those.
I googled my way to a baking blog and found this recipe for chocolate chip oatmeal cookies.
I got out my ingredients and started mixing.
One cup of each butter, sugar, and brown sugar.
Cream together.
Beat in two eggs (one at a time), 2 tablespoons of milk, and two teaspoons of vanilla extract.
Two cups of flour and one teaspoon of each baking soda, baking powder, and salt, mixed together in a separate bowl.
Add flour mixture to sugar mixture and slowly mix.
At this point my magical mixer needed to be put away and I was forced to mix everything else by hand (the recipe calls for this). I stirred in two and a half cups of oats and a bag of milk chocolate chips (my husband’s favourite!).
I placed one inch balls of dough onto a parchment covered cookie sheet.
Baked at 350 degrees for 10-13 minutes.
Finally, the only thing left to do was eat the darned things.
Oh, and lick the dough. That’s my favourite part!
So, how were they? Well, I asked my husband what he thought of them:
Oh, they’re terrible. Just awful. In fact, you just shouldn’t even try them. I wouldn’t want to ruin your self confidence or anything. In kindness to you, I will sacrifice myself and eat them all.
Thanks hun. You’re a real gentleman.
So, maybe I’m not quite Suzie Homemaker. But I do make pretty good cookies.

Ha, ha, ha! How sacrifical of Dan! And I LOVE Oatmeal cookies…with raisins (I know it's not a huge draw at my house!) particularly! The pictures are great Laura! I wish I was there to enjoy a couple!

Ummm…I want you to bake me cookies and send them to me like you did in my first year. I was telling someone about that today.
Best day of my life.
