Have you met Greta? Greta is the first American bloggy friend that I have met in person (I think. Don’t quote me on that). We didn’t just meet. We ran a half marathon together. We wore matching tutus (but we didn’t get a picture together). We laid on a hotel bed together while laughing and blogging. I think I love her. She blogs over at G*Funk*ified where she writes about life as a mother of four kids, running, gluten-free eating, and life as a remarried widow.
I told Greta that she could ask me any 10 questions and I would answer them on my blog, and these are the questions she came up with. In return, I asked her 10 questions as well. We’re doing this because The Bold Fab Mom and The Real Housewife of Caroline County host a weekly link up called #AskAwayFriday that encourages bloggers to pair up and swap 10 questions, which is such a cool way for everyone to get to know each other better.
1. What’s your dream photoshoot?
This is a particularly hard question because I haven’t been finding a lot of time to do photography lately, and therefore I prevent myself from thinking about it so that I don’t long for it. Quite honestly, the hardest part about photography for me is believing in my own abilities, so my dream photoshoot would be more of a mental state. I’d love to do a shoot where I know that I am rocking the shot and creating beautiful images that people are going to want to show off. I want to excel at photography, and my dream photoshoot would be a photoshoot where I feel like I am doing just that.
2. If you had to choose one dessert to eat for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Chocolate. It is a broad answer, but I am going with that, because I think if I narrowed it down further, I’d quickly grow sick of my choice.
3. What’s your ideal pet?
My ideal pet is one that doesn’t shed or stink. Really, my ideal pet would be Kenzie, the dog I got when I was 14 years old. She died a few years ago, but she was a beautiful little dog with a sweet demeanour. She loved travelling in the car, showed so much affection, and was generally good natured and easy to care for. If I could ensure that I would get another one just like her, I’m sure we’d have a dog.
4. Favorite sport? Why?
My favourite sport to participate in is running because it is probably the only sport that I’ve managed to do without hating and/or quitting. When I run, I am only competing against myself, which makes it possible for me to succeed. If I am going to watch a sport, my choice would have to be hockey. I am Canadian after all.
5. What’s your guiltiest pleasure?
Television. I can binge-watch television if I give myself the chance. I have to keep myself contained to only a few shows at a time so I don’t overwhelm myself with too much time-sucking entertainment. Right now, I’m working my way through Bones on Netflix. I started watching the series long ago, but stopped around Season 6, for no particular reason other than a lack of time. It isn’t like I have time to watch episode after episode now, but when it is on my iPad and portable, I can watch while also doing the dishes and folding laundry.
6. If you or your husband got a job and you had to move the family six hours away, what would you miss most about your home?
Without a doubt, the people, especially the people in my church. It takes me a long time to form roots in a place, but I finally feel rooted here. I could possibly be convinced to move six hours away only if it moved me closer to my family, who are currently four hours away.
7. What’s the one subject you hated most in school?
Gym. (See question about sports). Also, Tech. I failed a few Tech projects in high school because I tried to put too much effort into things that didn’t require it. I found myself overwhelmed by the scale of the projects I had created and got to a point where I just couldn’t finish to pass them in. So, I felt like a complete failure, which made me hate Tech.
8. Favorite thing to do for a Girls’ Night Out?
My favourite thing to do on a Girls’ Night Out is talk. We can be watching The Bachelor or going out to eat dessert or filling up our wine glasses, but what I really look forward to on my Girls’ Night Outs is the opportunity to connect with other women and Moms. I need that in my life.
9. Favorite color?
Pink. I didn’t like pink until I became outnumbered by boys in my house, so now I flock to it to maintain some aspects of femininity in my life.
10. What one thing brings your the most relief every day (physical, emotional, whatever)?
The thing that brings me the most relief every day is crawling into bed at the end of every day. We got a new bed recently and it is just so comfortable. There might be no better feeling than those quiet moments right before drifting off to sleep when my body and my mind finally receive permission to slow down and rest.
Don’t forget to head over to Greta’s blog to see what questions I asked her!

Oh yes, when my head hits the pillow every night – sweet, sweet relief. It makes me wonder why I don’t go to bed earlier :)
Also, I hated gym (or Physical Education, as it as called then). I totally sucked at it.

I could LIVE in bed given the opportunity, though whenever I spend too much time there, it gets less awesome. Going to bed earlier? Well, isn’t that a novel thought. I’ve never quite considered it. ;)

I think a lot of moms would agree that going to bed brings the biggest relief of the day!! :)

While I really liked bed before having kids, after having them, I appreciated bed so much more.

You know, one of the things I’m most excited about in our new house is getting a new bed. That’s the best isn’t it? Sinking in after a long day. Ahhh. I’m still so glad you and Greta had the chance to meet and hangout for a weekend. Too cool.
Laura O'Rourke says
I wasn’t convinced about getting a new bed when we moved. I mean, WE HAD JUST MOVED. Who had money to spend on a new bed? NOT US. But we had guests coming a few weeks after and no guest bed, so it became the perfect incentive to upgrade to a King from our Double. I don’t regret it for a moment.

I could answer so many of these in the exact same way! I love pink, binge on TV, love just chatting with the girls, and the running. I think I love you too, and that picture! Thanks for swapping with me. :)

Thank YOU for swapping with me! It was so much fun!

Great questions, great answers!
“I think I love her.” – hee hee hee. I knew you two would form a permanent bond in Disney. :)

I’m so glad Greta and I had Disney. Now, I just have to plan far-away bonding trips with all my bloggy friends.

Finishing a series is always THE WORST. You know the commitment involved in starting a new one, and you are losing your connection to a story that you’ve become involved with. It is hard to finish Netflix series. I know all about it. :)

Great answers! We have a dog who doesn’t shed (one of the requirements by hubs). She is now 12 and still is so full of energy and cute. She’s a cocker spaniel poodle mix (and the poodle in her is toy poodle).
By tech do you mean working with wood or as in technology? Our woodworking classes were called industrial arts. My family has owned a sawmill since the 1940s but woodworking was an awful class for me. However, anything involving technology (computers mainly), I loved those classes!
I am jealous of your new bed. I have been asking for one for a couple years. I should just go out and buy one (maybe for myself LOL).
Loved getting to know you better!

We have a lot in common! I binge watch TV (Yay Netflix!) and my relief is at bedtime too. And yes to running but no to gym class – totally!
Loved reading more about you!

I was given my first camera by my mother when I was eleven years old. I have spent a lifetime taking photographs. Consider this, Laura. The iconic landscape photographer Ansel Adams exposed about 50,000 sheets of film during his career, which continued into his eighties. Of those 50,000 exposures, Adams probably only has six or eight that are archetypal, and not more than 100 that are really first-rate.

I totally get what you mean about rocking the photo shoot. It’s so nice to have that feeling of doing something you love and knowing it’s going well.

Such amazing questions and answers! I too am a serious chocoholic! LOL! Any kind…cakes, cookies, brownies, candy…I just love chocolate! Girls nights or even lunches are amazing. Just the opportunity to hang out with friends is a definite bonus! Have a great week!
