My precious baby Cameron,
On Saturday you became eight months old. It is funny thinking back eight months. I never really thought I’d have an eight month old – not because I didn’t think you’d ever get to this age, but because I am so often stuck in the constancy of the moment, despite the fact that you are ever growing and learning and changing.
As I type this right now, you have pulled yourself up and are standing with help of a kitchen chair. You yell like you are Tarzan, as if you are saying I am Cameron, hear me roar!. You are transforming from a baby into a rascally little boy right in front of our eyes. In the past two months, you have become so independent! Since starting to army crawl, you have learned to crawl and then very quickly discovered how to pull yourself up to a standing position. Even now you’re able to walk along furniture. It is really incredible how quickly you’re learning.
But let me tell you, moving Cameron is exhausting Cameron. You have so much energy and personality. When you see us following you, you give us a quick smile and then zoom off in the other direction, giggling as you hear us chasing. That ridiculously cute bundle of energy that you possess isn’t as lovely at three o’clock in the morning though, when you seem to think it is just hilarious to start zerberting Mommy and Daddy while refusing to sleep.
We’re trying to teach you to understand the word no. We realized the importance of this when you climbed up onto the stove once when it was on. The front of the stove was very hot, but you didn’t understand that you should take your hands away and fall down. We grabbed you before you burnt your poor little palms, but it was scary enough to realize that we needed to start teaching you no.
It is really interesting watching you try to understand this word that we are saying to you so firmly. When we tell you not to touch something, you look at us questioningly, remove your hand, and then slowly put it back. It is as if you’re are asking “Still no, Mom?”.
Your little gummy smile is no more, and now your big bright smile boasts six little pearly whites. They are so cute, but man are they sharp! On Monday I was told that you have my smile. I was so, so proud. I hope that you use that smile for good, little guy. I hope that I’ll be able to teach you that your smile can make someone’s day. I hope that you use that smile every day.
You’re growing up so fast, buddy, and yet you’re still my little baby. Even though your Mom is currently exhausted and you don’t seem to want to let me rest, I love you with all my heart and I am so thrilled to be your Mommy. You make me proud every day.
I love you today and forever.
Your Mommy.
