Last time I got my hair cut was August ’09. AUGUST! I had found out in June that I was pregnant and by August I was just about to be interviewed for a new job. Unfortunately, I had long blond hair with ridiculous brown roots that only appeared even reasonably presentable in a ponytail. Now that I was pregnant, I knew that I didn’t want to subject my scalp to hair dyes ever few months. Now that I was looking for a job, I needed a sleeker look. I went to the salon for a chop and colour. It was going shorter and natural.
Mommy Cut
Here I am after my new haircut at 11 weeks pregnant.
The full sized belly pic is here.
You can imagine what my hair looked like six and a half months later when Cameron was born… Or worse: what it looked like last week. Now that I have a newborn, my long hair (down to my elbows) ALWAYS had to be up in a ponytail. At least this reduced my need to shower and do my hair often (EWWWW….).
I really wanted to get my hair cut right before Cameron was born. I thought about how cute I would look in pictures afterwards with a new do. I mean, after pushing an 8 and a half pound watermellonish person out my da-dun-da-dun for 37 hours, I wanted something to look good. (Really though, who was I kidding? After 37 hours, nobody’s hair is gonna look good). But, when you’re expecting a newborn, money goes to preparing for the needs of the baby, not the vanity of the mother.
I waited until last week to get my hair cut. I was visiting my in-laws, and it just so happens that my step-mother-in-law is a hair stylist. That meant I could FINALLY get my MomCut. I’ve heard women say that they don’t want to give in to the MomCut – they don’t feel like they need to sacrifice long, beautiful hair for the sake of convenience. But let me tell you, my hair was long but it did not feel beautiful, and it certainly did nothing to make me feel beautiful either. So, I said – “CUT IT ALL OFF!!!!”

After loosing more than eight inches of hair, I now can say that I have embraced the Mom lifestyle… I have a MomCut.
I. Love. It!
Having a new hairdo makes me feel so much better about my post-pregnancy body. There is actually part of me that is back to being somewhat stylish. It also gives me an reason to shower every couple of days. As a bonus, I do not need to keep it in a ponytail in order to nurse my baby.
Cameron and Mommy.
Taken yesterday.
12 weeks, 1 day old.
